Sara Sara: Improvised Theater Dec. 27th

For creation to be born and live,
there must be a big exchange of love.

Artists fight and unfold. Is it love or madness?
Is this room a jail or ruins?
And, who is this person living inside?

3 actors
2 musicians
1 visual artist

It's the same anywhere in the world.

Existence: Vol. 37 at FUKUGAN, July 17th, 8PM

An Evening of Variable Duos.

I don't know the experimental turn-tablist Katsura Mouri, so I can't advise. But I can say that if you've never seen Tim Olive or Shin'ichi Isohata, you should. Tim plays electric bass in a way that is singularly unique, creating textures and sounds that range from that mechanical surgery you remember hearing from the haunted attic of your nightmares to delicate noise phrases that RadioHead would wet their beds to sample. He uses no processing effects, so you know the sounds you're getting are pure, straight dope with no pedal-pushing augmentation. You might even find yourself asking, "Where's this bass Jerry mentioned?"

And, Shin'ichi Isohata is simply one of the most versatile experimental guitarists out there. You'll not look at an acoustic guitar with the same eyes of quaintness you once did.

As well, I'll be adding my sounds to the various mixes, so if you can make it out, it will be great to see you.

FUKUGAN GALLERY is a very cool little art spot just down the street from the America Mura BANCO, four floors up a quirky stairway. Check their website, map and look for their big steel grasshopper out front.

Jerry

Dual Duos: May 30th, Elixir

A Double Fix of Improvisational What-The-Fuckness

Rick Tuazon & Garry Lindon
Jerry Gordon & Mikio Ebihara

Anatomy of a Duo

"Small enough that a listener never loses track of the distinct sounds erupting from the individual players, a DUO is the most exposed and risk-laden of musical units. (A soloist doesn't have to read someone else's mind.) But, due to its stripped-down and intimate nature, a DUO can move, turn quick and rocket off in new
directions with the greatest flexibility. When a it flies, it soars. When it crashes, it burns."

-- I. Manuel Tzara

On Saturday May 30th, come out to Elixir and hear the pairings of [Rick Tuazon & Garry Lindon] and [Jerry Gordon & Mikio Ebihara] weave their improvised sounds in ways that may delight your better angels, reach down your throat to break the mirror in your heart or push the limits of your patience.

You'll know what it is when you hear it.

The event starts at 8:30PM and the plan is for each duo to play one set, followed by a third set of   2 + 2 = 4  that will finish the evening.

aleatoric tinkerbot: Live at Elixir Cafe Bar, Jan. 24th

aleatoric tinkerbot is Rick Tuazon and Jerry Gordon's playing as a duo.

Free-form experimentation while the muses of Improvisation, Noise and Chance pump their nectar into the boys' veins.

If you heard them play at the Eat the Weak film event a couple years ago, you got a swig of what they'll be pouring. If you didn't, this is your chance to drink deep.

Elixer is Guido's new bar/cafe. He is working his magic atop the stove, so get your taste buds ready. Those of you who remember the vibe of Guido's cafe Agave will have deja vu all over again.
